Our gift shop provides you the means to request a photograph of the gravesite you specify, provided a photo is available.  If the gravesite is located, we will digitally take a picture and email it to you for a $20 fee.  The Graveyard Inventory Search is a second feature available to you.  You may send us a search request by contacting us.  We charge $25 per search and will send you the results by return email.  We will provide an online search request form soon for your convenience.

Donations from these two services will be used to raise funds to automate the inventory and facilitate the death records search.

"In the Prime of Life and Usefulness..."

"In the Prime of Life and Usefulness..." was developed by the Comstock Cemetery Foundation's Alexis Dillon and Candace Wheeler.  Extensive research over many years by Mrs. Dillon resulted in the compilation of historic obituaries taken from the local newspapers circa 1860-1903.  Unlike today, the obituaries of the time were written as "short stories," recounting tales of life on the historic Comstock, causes of death, work environments, demographics, and social norms.  The title of the book, "In the Prime of Life and Usefulness..." was taken from the first line of one of the obituaries contained within the book.
