Events

Our annual calendar of recurring and special events calendar is updated constantly as details are coordinated and plans are firmed up.  The information below highlights our 2005 events.

Memorial Day
Memorial Day was originally called Decoration Day and is a day of remembrance for those who have died in our nation's services.  Waterloo N.Y. was officially declared the birthplace of Memorial Day by President Lyndon Johnson in May 1966.  It was General John Logan, national commander of the Grand Army of the Republic, that officially proclaimed Memorial Day on May 5, 1868.  It was first observed on May 30, 1868 when flowers were placed on the graves of Union and Confederate soldiers at Arlington National Cemetery.

Today is a time to remember all those who have gone before, especially the brave pioneers and innovators of the Comstock. Their resting place is decaying and eroded but their contribution to our country should be acknowledged, valued and remembered.
